Thane Ritchie

Thane Ritchie is a lifelong entrepreneur, notable for his record in several fields including innovation in hedge fund management, mergers and acquisitions. Ritchie entered the business world at a young age, joining his stepfather, options and commodities pioneer Joe Ritchie, at the Chicago Board of Trade in the late 1970s. Exposed to the nuances of finance in lieu of sixth and seventh grade, Thane built a foundation for his career that remains today. When Ritchie returned to school, he tested at three academic levels above his grade.

With exceptional performances in the classroom and on the football field at Plano High School, Ritchie studied at Duke University--eventually transferring to his native area’s Wheaton College. A standout tight end and linebacker for the Division III school, Ritchie was selected to the All-Conference Football Team two years in a row. After graduation, Ritchie played tight end for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears practice squads. In 2007, Ritchie was inducted into the Wheaton Thunder Hall of Fame.

In the early 1990s, Ritchie resumed working at the Chicago Board of Trade, followed by a stint at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He would later form Ritchie Capital Markets, which led to a string of achievements as an investor and hedge fund manager. Career highlights include taking his signature hedge fund from a $30 million valuation in 2005 to nearly $4 billion assets under management (AUM) at its peak. In addition to his work in finance, Thane Ritchie invests in a wide range of media properties, political endeavors and charitable causes.

Today, Thane Ritchie oversees investments through his family office and various private equity firms.
