Arvid Carlsson, M.D., Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology at the University of Göteborg, Sweden, and is a member of the Swedish Academy of Sciences and a foreign affiliate of the United States National Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the 2000 Nobel Prize for medicine for studies on how brain cells transmit signals to each other, laying the groundwork for developing improved treatments for neurological and psychiatric disorders. Dr. Carlsson is the recipient of numerous other awards, including The Japan Prize in Psychology and Psychiatry, The Research Prize of the Lundbeck Foundation (Denmark) and the Lieber Prize for research in schizophrenia (United States).
