Carol Tamminga, M.D. is currently Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Director of Translational Psychiatry at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center. She previously was Professor of Psychiatry at the department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland. She has also taught at the University of Chicago. Dr. Tamminga's research is focused on the neurochemical and neuropsychiatric aspects of schizophrenia. She co-founded the International Congress on Schizophrenia in 1989 and has organized the event since then. In 1998, Dr. Tamminga was elected a member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences.
