Vaduvur Bharghavan

Dr. Vaduvur Bharghavan, Founded Meru Networks, Inc., in 2002 and served as its Chief Technology Officer from February 2002 to May 2011. Dr. Bharghavan has co-founded a new company in May 2011.His achievements include significant contributions towards the development of wireless medium access protocols and quality of service architectures for wireless data networks. Dr. Bharghavan's research has produced results that have gained commercial attention and have been implemented by Fortune 500 companies in the networking industry. Prior to co-founding Meru Networks, Dr. Bharghavan delivered a flagship carrier-class product to three global wireless carriers as founder of Bytemobile Inc. At this mobile communications company, he alternated positions as Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Technology Officer, and Vice President of Engineering. Up to that time, Dr. Bharghavan held the position of Chief Technology Officer at Equinox Solutions. He has published over 75 technical papers in IEEE/ACM conferences and journals, served on the editorial board of flagship academic journals such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking and IEEE Computer Networks Journal, guest edited issues in the ACM Journal of Mobile Networks and Applications, co-chaired ACM Mobicom 2002, and served on the program committees of prominent IEEE and ACM networking conferences such as SIGCOMM, MOBICOM, and INFOCOM. His scholastic accomplishments include his role as Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is recognized by the National Science Foundation (NSF) where he received the coveted NSF Young Investigator Award in 1997 (now the Early Career Development (CAREER) Award). He served as a Director of Meru Networks, Inc., until May 9, 2012. Dr. Bharghavan holds MS and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the department of EECS at the University of California at Berkeley and a B.Tech Degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras.
