Edward G. Murphy

Edward G. Murphy, M.D. became a Radius Operating Partner in 2012. Prior to joining Radius, Dr. Murphy spent over 25 years running hospital-anchored Integrated Delivery Systems with large physician practice components. For more than a decade prior to July 2011, Dr. Murphy served as President and CEO of Carilion Clinic, an academic medical delivery system with 7 hospitals, 700 physicians, 11,000 employees and $1.3 billion in annual operating revenue, headquartered in Roanoke, VA.

Under Dr. Murphy’s leadership, Carilion co-founded The Virgina Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Research Institute (where Dr. Murphy currently serves as a Professor), won the 2002 National Quality Award and was a founding participant in the Brookings Institute ACO Demonstration project. Dr. Murphy also led the development and growth of Carilion Labs, a subsidiary outreach laboratory services company that merged with Spectrum Laboratory Network in 2010, in conjunction with Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe, as the finanical sponsor. The new company, Solstas Lab Partners, operates throughout the eastern United States and is one of the largest full-service laboratories in the nation.

Dr. Murphy was awarded the HIMMS/Modern Health Care CEO IT Achievement award in 2008 and serves on numerous Boards including the NCQA, Health Professions Insurance Company and Sound Physicians where he serves as Chairman.

Dr. Murphy received his B.S from the University at Albany and an M.D with honors from Harvard Medical School.
