Dr. Emmanuel Edward Baetgem, Ph.D serves as the Head of Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences at Nestlé Health Science S.A. Dr. Baetge has over 19 years of experience managing research in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Baetge served as the Chief Scientific Officer and a Vice President of Novocell, Inc. (now ViaCyte, Inc.) from 2004 to 2010 and served as its Senior Vice President until 2010. He served as Chief Scientific Officer of CyThera in 2001 to head its then emerging human embryonic stem cell program. Prior to joining CyThera, Dr. Baetge served as Chief Scientific Officer at Modex Therapeutics Ltd., from 1997 to 2001. Proir to Modex, Dr. Baetge held management positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb from 1987 to 1992 and Cytotherapeutics Inc., from 1992 to 1997. Dr. Baetge serves as a Director at Prometheus Laboratories Inc., and Nestlé Health Science S.A. Dr. Baetge has published extensively in the field of cell therapy and produced a number of cell technology patents. Dr. Baetge holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Neurobiology from Cornell University and completed postdoctoral work at Cornell University and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
