Fernando Guerrero

Fernando Guerrero is Varadero’s managing partner and chief investment officer. He founded Varadero Capital in 2009, representing the culmination of over 25 years of experience in the structured credit markets.

Guerrero began his career in Commercial Banking at Texas Commerce Bank and joined the asset-backed securities group at Chemical Bank following its acquisition of TCB. Over the following two decades, he developed a reputation for building and managing global securitization and debt capital markets businesses at Banker’s Trust; Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette; TD Bank; and ABN Amro.

In 2005, Guerrero moved to the buy side to join Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) as the head of the newly formed Global Structured Products Group. Following MLIM, Guerrero became the chief executive officer and chief investment officer of NIBC Credit Management, Inc. (NIBC CMI), where he was responsible for all aspects of NIBC CMI’s North American activities, including its investment management business.

Guerrero has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in finance from LSU, and he is a graduate of the Program for Management Development at The Harvard Business School. He is also a member of the board of Island Finance, LLC.
