Bio

Gary Torgow is Chairman at The Huntington National Bank, a two-time author, and an active community leader in Detroit, Michigan. He is also the Founder of the Sterling Group, a Michigan-based real estate and development, investment and management company, which has acquired, developed and operated a number of important landmark properties in southeastern Michigan.

Gary Torgow also served as the Chairman of Chemical Financial Corporation before they acquired TCF Financial Corporation and changed their name. TCF was the largest bank based in Michigan even before the acquisition. Currently, Gary serves on the boards of Blue Cross Blue Shield Michigan, Jackson National Life, and on the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. He is also a member of the Board of Business Leaders of Michigan and the Detroit Downtown Partnership. Most recently, he was elected Chairman of the Mosaic United Steering Committee. This committee is an Israeli Jewish Initiative for the benefit of the Diaspora Jewry.

Gary Torgow also serves as a Trustee of the Skillman Foundation, a private philanthropy group based in Detroit, Michigan. The organization's goal is to serve as a champion of the city's children. To do so, they work hard to ensure that Detroit’s kids are prepared and positioned to be the leaders of tomorrow, in the city and beyond. To accomplish this goal, they mainly focus on Education and Economic Well-Being. Just a few of their programs include strengthening K-12 public education, afterschool learning opportunities, and college and career pathways. The Skillman Foundation was originally founded in 1960, and has worked hard since then to empower children and improve their lives. They believe their work won't just help kids during childhood but throughout the rest of their lives. Gary was appointed to be on the Board of Trustees in September 2020. They appoint members for their active work to improve the city of Detroit.

Both Gary Torgow’s charitable and professional endeavors have earned him a number of honors and awards including the NAACP Fannie Lou Hamer Award, the Wayne State University School of Law Outstanding Alumni Award, and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Frank Wetsman Young Leadership Award. Mr. Torgow has served as a volunteer on multiple civic and communal boards. Two of these positions include Chairman of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission and the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation. He graduated from Wayne State University School of Law and Yeshiva University where he earned a J.D. and B.A., respectively.

Gary Torgow has also written two books, Raising the Bar and Holy Warrior. He’s now also a featured speaker at several institutions.
