James Daniel (J. D.) Murphy, Jr. is a Senior Advisor at Corstone. Murphy began his IT career in1968 while attending the University of Massachusetts. In 1979 he formed and founded Computech, Inc., which he grew from a start-up to a mature, international firm with clients as diverse as the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and the Kingdom of Thailand’s Post and Telegraph Department. In January 2015, a publically traded defense-contracting firm acquired Computech.
From 1987 forward Murphy actively participated in the Maryland Technology Council where he served on the Board of Directors, and held the position of Vice Chairman for five years and Chairman for three. He is also a Founding Member of the Maryland Angels Council and served as the Chairman of the organization until 2012.
Murphy served on the Board of Directors of Sequoia Bank from 1998 until the bank’s acquisition in 2003; he served on the Loan and Audit Committees. Until acquired by Cardtronics in 2005, Murphy served as a Director of ATM National the developer of the All Point Network, the largest, surcharge-free, network of 35,000 automated teller machines. In 2007 he joined the Board of Directors of Assure Holding a firm involved in all aspects of insurance from re-insurance to auto and casualty coverage.
He chairs the MedStar Washington Hospital’s Center’s Foundation Board and chaired the American Heart Associations Annual Hearts in Blooms Gala in 2000 and 2001. He is a past Director of the Washington Board of Trade and is actively involved in a number of charitable organizations: he sits on the boards of the Catholic Charities of Washington, DC and Cathedral High School, Boston Massachusetts.Murphy earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts.
