Laurie Silvers

Laurie Silvers practiced law in South Florida for over 10 years before starting her career as a media and Internet entrepreneur. Laurie co-founded the SyFy Channel with Mitch.

She is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Miami and serves on its Executive Committee; she is also Chair of the University’s Academic Affairs Committee and Conflict of Interest Committee and is a Member of the Law School Visiting Committee; she is the 2014 incoming Chair of the Board of Directors of WPBT Channel 2, the public broadcasting television station for Miami; she served as 2010 Chair of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County; she is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach where she is the Vice Chair; she is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Palm Beach United Way; and she Co–Chaired the American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra 2010, 2011 and 2012 Palm Beach Concert and Gala.

Laurie is a 2011 recipient of the Sun Sentinel’s “Excalibur Award”, awarded to leaders in the business community. She is also a Volunteer Mentor with the “Women of Tomorrow” program which mentors at-risk high school girls and is the 2013 Empowerment Mentor Honoree of Women of Tomorrow. And, Laurie serves on the organization’s Board of Trustees. She is an annual speaker at Duke University’s Women in Business Program.
