Michael L. Langberg is Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer at Cedars-Sinai.

Michael L. Langberg, MD, FACP, is a leading expert on patient safety and clinical quality. He leads Cedars-Sinai’s systemwide efforts in these crucial areas while also overseeing bioethics, resource management, healthcare-acquired infection prevention, epidemiology and physician credentialing.

Dr. Langberg monitors treatment outcomes daily so quick action can be taken to address quality issues. He leads highly collaborative, multidisciplinary performance improvement initiatives focused on creating safer, more effective and less costly clinical practices, while providing oversight for newly acquired or affiliated surgery centers and hospitals. His expertise is in high demand in national and state health policy forums. He has testified before the U.S. Congress on patient safety and quality issues and before the California State Senate on physician performance. He also has presented to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Health Management Academy and the National Patient Safety Congress.

A fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Langberg served on the California Hospital Association’s Board of Trustees, and chaired its Center for Hospital Medical Executives

He’s a permanent member of the California Department of Public Health’s Healthcare-Associated Infection Advisory Committee. He chaired the American Hospital Association working group on Reducing Hospital Readmissions and served on the VHA Health Foundation’s Board of Directors. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Hospital Quality Institute.

Dr. Langberg earned his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology at University of California, San Diego, and his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Cedars-Sinai, followed by the UCLA Kennamer Fellowship in general internal medicine. He is an adjunct professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
