Bio
Pere Ginès, MD is chief of the Liver Unit, Hospital Clínic, Barcelona, Spain’s largest liver unit and one of the largest in Europe. He has spent the last 25 years dedicated to treating patients with liver diseases. He is a co-author of the International Ascites Club Guidelines on the treatment of ascites. His research interests are based on the areas of complications of cirrhosis, ascites, hepatorenal syndrome and hyponatremia.
He was a key investigator in several of the seminal studies in the field of liver failure, including randomized studies between TIPS and repeat paracentesis. He is an active member of the two largest liver societies, AASLD and EASL. He was awarded the Hans Popper Award in 2006 for his contribution to research in the field of Liver diseases. In 2008 he was awarded a National prize by FRIAT (Fundación Renal Iñigo Alvarez Toledo) for his research work. He is also one of the founding members of the EASL CLIF CONSORTIUM (currently Secretary) which is an international consortium dedicated to improving and amplifying the research work done in the field of Chronic Liver Failure.
