Philippe Astoul is Head of Thoracic Oncology, Pleural Disease and the Interventional Pneumology Department at Hôpital Nord, Marseille, France and Professor of Pulmonology at the University Aix-Marseille, Marseille, France. Professor Astoul is recognized as a key opinion leader in pleural disease and for developing the gold standard technique currently used for treating pleural effusions. His areas of expertise are interventional pneumology, pleural disease including diagnosis and management of pleural effusions, malignant pleural disease and pneumothorax. His research interests relate to translational studies in all aspects of pleural disease and developing new treatments and techniques. Astoul and his group have published more than 150 scientific papers.
