Takamune Okihara

Mr. Okihara began his career in 1974 at The Sanwa Bank, Ltd. Before being appointed president and CEO of UFJ Bank Ltd. and a director of UFJ Holdings, Inc. in 2004, he held a variety of general management roles at the Asakusa Branch, the Tokyo Corporate Banking Department, and the Corporate Banking Planning Department, In October 2005, when Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (MUFG) was established, Mr. Okihara became the managing officer and group head of the Integrated Corporate Banking Business Group responsible for group-wide corporate banking activities.

At the founding of The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU) in January 2006, he was appointed deputy president and chief executive, and his duties included overseeing the Corporate Banking Business Unit, the IT Department, and all trust asset business. In 2008, he was appointed as deputy chairman, a position he still holds. In 2010, he was appointed chairman of MUFG. Mr. Okihara is a member of the TOMODACHI Advisory Board, an influential group of Japanese and U.S. leaders that supports recovery efforts and the development of a new generation of leaders following the Great East Japan Earthquake.
