Zhiwei Yang

Zhiwei Yang joined GSR Ventures in November 2010, with a focus on investments in the telecommunications, Internet, wireless, and payment sectors, including SIMO Wireless, iBoxPay, and IMOffice. He brings with him many years of experience in strategic consulting and operation in the IT high-tech area as well as in telecommunications operational management, concentrating on technology innovation, market trends, and business opportunities.

Prior to GSR, Zhiwei was involved in a number of start-ups and NASDAQ-listed companies. He was an early founder and served as chief engineer of the former China Netcom, where he was responsible for its growth strategy, new business introduction, and technology development. Under Zhiwei’s leadership, the world’s first IP/DWDM high-speed Internet CNCnet was developed.

Earlier in his career, Zhiwei served as the chief engineer of China’s first technology IPO on NASDAQ, AsiaInfo-Linkage (NASDAQ: ASIA). In addition, Zhiwei was an advisory member in the National Development and Reform Commission, helping to formulate strategic planning for the China Next Generation Network (NGN).

Zhiwei holds an EMBA degree from the Guanghua School of Management.
